Shortly after, Baba is diagnosed with cancer but is still capable of granting Amir one last favor: Baba asks for General Taheri’s permission for Amir to marry his daughter. He agrees and the two get married. Shortly after that, Baba dies. Amir and Soraya try unsuccessfully to have children while Amir works on his writing career.
